What was the Vietnam war?

The Vietnam war was a war that has started in 1955. The U.S. became involved on November 1, 1955. They were sent there to help train the people to fight. The Vietnam war was one of the longest wars that America was involved in. In this bloody mess there was 2.5 million killed on both sides. This bloody war was mostly fought in around Southern Vietnam. This war consisted of the following countries, North Vietnam, Soviet Union, and The Peoples Republic of China vs. South Vietnam, United States, Australia, South Korea, and New Zealand. The whole reason for this war was a conflict between the North and South. It was mostly started by the North and the Vietcong's trying to over throw the Souths government. The reason for the split of the country is because after WWII Vietnam was trying to gain its own independence from France. The U.S. getting involved in this bloody war was questioned very much by most people. They thought that it really didn't involve us.
